Tips For New Manager
Are you a novice in your new position as a manager? Are you a new manager in an old company? Or are you joining a new company as a manager? Either ways, the transition can quite overwhelming for some. Here are some tips to help you settle fast in your new role.
If you are among those who are totally clueless as to how to use this new position to your advantage, here are some guidelines:
Choosing Roads
There are two paths in front of you. As a new manager,
- Will you like to walk on the easy route and do things that are expected of you?
- Or, are you going to make the best use of this designation and put some changes into action for the progress of your company and your team?
- The option is yours
When you become a manager, there are many things that fall into your hands. You are in control of your work. Make use of all your ideas you wanted to experiment with for a long time and which you think will reap benefits. Keep in mind- now you can change things and make them happen your way.
- Some Place Else
If you want to keep climbing the organizational ladder, then your success will depend on your ability to influence people outside your direct in of control. Also, you will have to keep your equilibrium and preserve your ability to make good judgments.
- Roles to Play
In your new position you will have to decide on the roles you are expected to and want to play. As a manager, will be expected to play the role of a strategist, provider and guardian.
- Strategist: As a strategist you will have to take a ling term view of your goals. Your tea members will work towards a known and established goal, but as a manager you will have to look further ahead so that you can chalk new plans strategies, etc.
By knowing what your next plan or project is going to be you will gear yourself with resources for the same.
- Provider:
As a manager, you should have access to information and sources that your team will need. Only you will be able to acquire these things as you will have some influence and authority over such matters.
- Guardian:
In addition to being a strategist and a provider, you as a manager should be able to provide security to your team.
If a team member has some problem at work, you should be able to find a solute to it. Also, acknowledgment of good ideas and positive criticism should be part of your game plan.
