Know your ‘type’ of wedding gowns

Monday, June 30th, 2008
by Ann

The first thing you should do when shopping for your wedding dress is decide which style of gown you prefer. Some styles are better suited for particular body types.

Whether you are short, tall, thin or curvy, you will be a beautiful bride.

Here are the five basic styles of wedding gowns.

A-Line (Princess)

A-line dresses are fitted around the bodice and flow outward to the ground, resemblingA-Line the shape of an uppercase A.

There is no marked waist or other cuts in the structure of the gown. A-line gowns can be short (above the knee) or flow all the way to the ground and include a long train.

A-line dresses are ideal for many body types. The long, continuous lines elongate a shorter bride. The A-line skirt slims and hides a heavier lower body.

Fairy Tale WeddingBall Gowns
Ball Gowns

Ball gowns will remind you of fairy tales. The bodice is fitted and the skirt is very full.

These type of gowns are very formal. Ball gowns come with a variety of different necklines and sleeve lengths - including sleeveless. Ball gowns can be worn with or without a train.

Ball gowns are best for slender figures or pear-shapes, as the full skirt hides large hips and thighs.

Column (Sheath)Column (Sheath)

The column wedding dress has a very slim shape that flows straight down from neckline to hemline.

These type of gowns are normally floor length and can be worn at casual or extravagant weddings, depending on the fabric.

Column gowns are best for thin brides. The straight design does not allow to hide many body flaws. This kind of dress looks especially nice on short, lean women, as it elongates their silhouette.

Empire

The empire gown has a raised waistline that begins right below the bust. From there, the dress flows toward outward to the floor. Traditionally, the empire dress has a square neckline.

This design is very versatile and comes in a variety of skirt styles from contouring to A-shape. Sleeves vary from sleeveless to flowing, bell styles.

Empire dresses can be worn at outdoor, casual weddings, as well as fancy church affairs. Though it is nice for any body type, the empire gown is especially fitting for small breasted women.

Mermaid

The mermaid dress looks exactly as the name indicates. The dress is contoured against the body all the way to the knee. Then the gown flares out to the hem.

This style is considered the sexiest of the five basic wedding gown types. Because it hugs the body, you must be very confident to wear this style.

The mermaid gown is normally worn by slender women. However if you love your curvy figure and want to flaunt it, this dress may be for you.

Top wedding superstitions

SuperstitionsSuperstitions are not my thing at all… I got married on Friday the 13th without following a single superstition and we are the happiest couple in the world. I know a wedding is a big thing and bad thoughts are bound to creep in your mind so hear are the top ten wedding myths and Mid-Ways on them.

10) Wearing pearls:

This is one of those wedding myths with both bad luck and good luck meanings.

Bad Luck: In this version of the myth the pearls are supposed resemble tears, so wearing them will welcome tears, hardship and heartbreak.

Good Luck: The happy feel good versions of this myth suggests that the pearls will replace the bride’s real tears therefore keeping the bride happy and tear free.

Mid-Way: Both versions of this myth use pearls to resemble tears. This seems to be a situation where wearing pearls can either get good luck or bad luck I say nix the pearls and keep your mind at ease.

9) Time of day to get married:

Good Luck: Exchanging wedding vows as the minute hand is past the 30 minute markis said to be good luck. As the minutes ascend towards heaven the couple becomes more blessed.

Mid-Way: If you can great, but if not don’t sweat it.

8) Sign your married name before the wedding:

Bad Luck: It is considered bad luck for the bride to sign her married name before the wedding as it tempts fate.

Mid-Way: I’m sure fate has better things to do than to worry about you signing your new name.

7) Tears on the wedding day:

Good Luck: Tears are considered good luck for the bride to cry during her wedding. This way she will have cried all her tears away leaving none for the marriage. Another side to this one says that a bride’s tears are good luck as they bring rain for the crops.

Mid-Way: Don’t force or fake it. Keep it real. If you cry you cry don’t foce the issue by with a quick poke to the eye.

6) Rain on the wedding day:

This is another good luck, bad luck wedding myth.

Bad Luck: Rain drops represent the many tears a bride will cry throughout her marriage.

Good Luck: The rain is said to foretell the growth of a family such as a child on the way. This thought comes from the farms where rain promotes growth of crops in the farmer’s fields.

Mid-Way: If it rains it rains. I can guarantee a huge hardship byletting the rain scare you by rescheduling a wedding you have already made huge plans for.

5 ) Wearing your entire bridal outfit prior to the wedding day:

Bad Luck: Again this myth is about tempting fate.

Mid-Way: Since this myth is about wearing your entire bridal outfit before the wedding, you can avoid this myth by simply leaving out one item at all times when putting your outfit together.

4) Dropping the wedding ring: This is another double sided wedding

Good Luck: Dropping the wedding ring during the wedding ceremony was seen as lucky as it would shake out evil spirits hiding in the ring.

Bad Luck: It was believed that dropping the wedding ring would cause whoever dropped the ring to be the first to die.

Mid-Way: Since someone must carry the ring during the wedding this one is

something you can’t just skip so I say turn this one into a positive and pick the most annoying person you can think of as your ring bearer. If you don’t like that idea contract out and hire yourself a ring bearer.

3) The bride shouldn’t make her own dress:

Bad Luck: What’s with weddings and tears? Any way this wedding myth suggests that for every stitch of the wedding ring the bride sews herself she’ll shed one tear during her marriage.

Mid-Way: I think that would be pretty cool to do if you have the talent, though I would have hated my wife to have spent so much time away from me to make the dress.

2) Catching the bouquet:

Good Luck: The person who catches the bouquet is next to get married.

Mid-Way: This is one of the most entertaining and simplest parts of the wedding. So ladies keep clawing, grabbing, and pushing your way to the bouquet it makes for a better show.

1) Seeing the bride before the wedding:

Bad Luck: I’m sure we’ve all heard of this one but just in case this is news to

You I’ll go ahead and explain. Simply put it is considered bad luck for the groom to see his lovely bride in her dress before the wedding. Doing so will cause the groom to get cold feet.

Mid-Way: Cold feet? Isn’t that what socks are for. I love my wife and have to see her as much as possible.

My personal view for a Wonderful marriage:

All you need to worry about is each other. Love, respect, attention, greatest “Luck” towards your marriage in the world while warding off all the bad. This recipe only works if you both follow it. When you get married you become a team and must work together to win. Remember it’s you two against the world.

Summer is the ideal season to go outdoors and have fun with the kids, family, friends and even pets. It is the time when you go to beaches, have picnics and enjoy frolicking under the sun. Although summer is a great time to go out and have fun, it is also important that you do not forget to protect yourself and your family from the sun.

Use proper Body language

I was doing a bit of grocery shopping today and I got hit on twice in less than a minute.

No problem with me, they’re just barking up the wrong tree.

The thing is when I walked away from both of them all I could think was, “Man, those were some creepy dudes.”

And no, it wasn’t because they were gay. I don’t care what side of the toast you butter, as long as it makes you happy.

Nope, they gave me the heeby jeebies because of a common mistake most people make when they first have a conversation with someone.

And fixing this one little thing could mean being as popular as the high school quarterback instead of as outcast as the kid whose parents are hippies and don’t believe in deodorant.

Just read on and I’ll explain.

First guy walks up to me and says, “That’s a nice tattoo on your leg.” and smiles. Then he says, “Are you an artist?”

“At one time I was.” I reply.

“Cool, what do you do now?” He asks.

“I’m a writer.”

“Oh, wow. I used to teach music in high school. So, do you live around here?”

“Nope. Nice talking to you. Have a good night.” And I was out.

What happened here, and what made me think this guy was a weirdo, was that his questions didn’t naturally flow from one to the next.

There was no transition.

He went from asking my job, to telling me his job, to asking where I lived. It was like a game of twenty questions.

The funny thing is I would of gladly talked for a while with him if he would ofmade a natural transition from question to question. But instead he came off as a big scatterbrained weirdo.

Now, how about a better way to start a conversation. One that won’t leave the person thinking you’re dumber than a hairless beach ape.

Well, you can help yourself more than you realize if you follow the Fearless Living Challenge.

You begin by learning the two best ways to start a conversation. If you’re willing to do so you’ll be able to hold anyones attention, anywhere.

Stop worrying how to be funny, not knowing what to say, and rejection. Follow the secret of the Fearless Living Challenge. So easy to follow virtually everyone gets better at talking skills almost immediately.

Regardless of your age, in just 15 minutes each day, you can…

Planning for your dream wedding??

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Did he propose, and you said “Yes!”? If so, congratulations! You are about to embark on one of the greatest journeys known to mankind: marriage.

There are lots of emotions that swirl around an engagement. Don’t let one of them be stress, due to not knowing how you will plan for the big day.

The first thing you need to do is to set a budget for how much you and your beloved want to spend on the blessed event. Once you have set the limit, do everything in your power to stay within the boundary you have determined. This will keep your stress level from skyrocketing in and of itself.

Once you’ve done that, if you want help, now is the time to look for a wedding coordinator. But if you’re like me, you want to be in charge of the most intimate details surrounding your wedding day.

Then, you have to get your wedding party list together. You want to make sure all of the ladies and men who will serve as bridesmaids and groomsmen have ample time to get their finances together to rent or buy tuxes and dresses.

Don’t forget about the parents of the precious little junior bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl and ring bearer. You want them to have the finances available for the items they will need to purchase for these little ones, too.

Once you’ve recognized this, it’s time to select a wedding location and the site for the wedding reception. If you are a member of a church already, if it will hold the number of attendees you expect, that is a good place to start in determining a location.

Shopping for the wedding gown is usually the bride’s favorite part of preparing for her wedding day. To save money, a lot of soon-to-be wives are opting for rental gowns. You can get a designer gown at a rental shop from $75 to $300! Which isn’t a bad expenditure for something most only wear once and for a few hours!

Based on your wedding location, get in your mind’s eye the décor you want to display for not only your viewing pleasure, but that of your guests. Do you prefer candelabras or beautiful flower arrangements and ribbons? The good news is, it’s your day, and the choice is yours.

If you have enough time, Save the Date cards are fun little reminders that can be sent out before your invitations. Your invitations should go out at least a month in advance. There are so many styles to choose from these days. Remember your theme, and go with that, and you’re sure to make the best decision in selecting them.

Don’t forget the photographer and videographer. Make sure you capture every moment, so you can look back and cherish the day you and your beloved became one.

But whatever you decide to do, just make sure you make your wedding day a day that brings back sweet memories that was enjoyed not only by you, but by everyone in attendance that special day.
