Know the great supplements for hair

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

I hope that you aren’t expecting some miracle solution that will help you grow ten inches of hair in a month. Unluckily, growing hair takes time and lots of patience. If you hear someone claim that they can do it otherwise, I’d be very cautious before taking their advice. However, there are several things that you can do to attain healthy hair and speed up the growing process - if you’re willing to pay the price.

You may have noticed that women from the same family often have the same hair growth patterns. If you should see a woman that grows hair well, the chances are that the other women in her family grow hair well too. The same is true for women who cannot grow hair well. This is because heredity many times plays a big role in how our hair grows.

You may be saying, “My family members just aren’t hair growers, so I’m stuck, right?” Not necessarily. Many times family traits are inherited because nutritional habits are also passed down. Nutritional deficiencies can be inherited just the same as hair color. The good news is the cycle can be broken, but it takes patience. With proper nutrition, deficiencies can almost always be reversed, but sometimes it takes several months or even years to completely reverse.

Even if you don’t have a deficiency, proper nutrition and supplements can be used to boost you hair’s growth rate. If you want to add foods to your diet that will help hair growth here are a few you may want to try:Barley

Barley: This nutritional grain is good for a number of things, but its high content of niacin, a B vitamin, is essential for healthy hair.

High protein foods: Without enough protein, hair is forced into the resting phase, and is shed prematurely. Try adding more lean meats, beans or lentils to your diet. Protein is composed of the amino acids necessary to grow new cells - including hair. (Have you ever noticed how beautiful a Hispanic woman’s hair is? It’s because of the high protein from the beans in their diet).Avocado

Avocados, nuts and seeds: These contain high vitamin E, necessary for healthy hair.

Raw oats and bean sprouts: These contain silica, a very important mineral that is a must for growing healthy hair.

Sufficient fat: Many people automatically turn their noses up when fat is mentioned, but certain amounts of fats are necessary for health in general and for healthy hair. The key is finding the right kinds of fats. EFAs (essential fatty acids) found in foods such as fish, and pumpkin, are extremely important for healthy hair. Also, find a good balance from other plant and animal sources.

Luckily, modern science has made it possible to get proper nutrition very easily without having to eat several pounds of the foods that contain the nutrients we need. This is through nutritional supplements. Even when taking nutritional supplements, make sure that you’re getting ones of a good quality, or they just won’t benefit. Make sure the supplement manufacturer has a reputation for good quality.

Here’s a list of the supplements that will help you grow great hair:

VITAMINS: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Biotin, Inositol, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12.

GET GREAT VITAMIN SUPLEMENTSVitamins and minerals

MINERALS: Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Iodine, Selenium, Copper, Silica, Zinc, Sulfur, Chromium

BUY COLLOIDAL MINERALS

HERBS: Sage, Chamomile, Catnip, Burdock Root, Horsetail

If you have very curly hair, you may have a hard time growing hair. Curly hair rarely grows long, so this doesn’t mean that you have a deficiency.Herbs Curly hair is beautiful in its own way, whether it’s long or short.

There are several health situations that can keep your hair from looking its best. Thyroid problems, gastrointestinal issues, and even hormone imbalances. If you don’t notice at least some improvement in your hair’s quality after several months, you may consider an underlying health problem.

Honey and Ginger JuiceMaheep Kohli owns a bee farm in Moga, Punjab and she has a few honey-based remedies up her sleep as well. One of them is a mixture of honey, ginger juice and black pepper powder, mixed in equal quantities. When consumed thrice daily helps to relieve symptoms of asthma.

However, here are also a few words of caution from Maheep: Always make sure that the honey you are taking is not heated, avoid taking honey when you are exposed to high temperature.

Is garlic harmful to your health?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Garlic has been around as long as the pyramids, maybe longer. For millenniums, it’s been a staple remedy in folk medicine. It’s also a key ingredient in Mediterranean cooking (Eating a Mediterranean Diet Reduces Mortality). Now we’re starting to find out, once again, that grandma knew her stuff. Garlic is packed full of vitamins and other nutrients that are not only good for you, but vital to health and wellness!

During World War I, soldiers were given garlic to avoid dysentery. In WWII, it was used against gangrene. Even before that, some say that Louis Pasteur (the scientist famous for making germ theory broadly accepted) accepted its benefit as an antibacterial agent.

Garlic gets its strong flavor from its sulphur content. The stronger the flavor, the more sulphur it contains. Now sulphur is used in the production of amino acids — those little things that protein is built from. Protein is what cells are made of. Without protein, cells weaken, without amino acids, the body can’t construct its protein, and without sulphur, certain proteins don’t get made. Because of it’s sulphur content, science is beginning to think it may be helpful for preventing cancer.

Another element of garlic is allicin — a compound antibiotic and antifungal properties. It’s what gives fresh garlic a hot, burning taste. Allicin doesn’t become active in garlic until it is chopped up or crushed. Unfortunately, allicin loses a lot of its potency when you cook it, so for use as an antibacterial or antifungal, you’re better off going with a garlic oil supplement. But this compound is excellent for dissolving fats within the body, and so helps against arteriosclerosis by keeping plaque build-up down.

Raw garlic is also high in the minerals calcium, iron, potassium, selenium and zinc, and in vitamin compounds that include beta-carotene (a vegetable source of vitamin A), rutin (a strong antioxidant sometimes used in managing hemophilia) and quercetin, a flavonoid very effective against pollen allergies, such as hay fever. And this list is just scratching the surface of the garlic clove!

The most probable and the most common result of stress and lack of sleep is headache. Majority of the working people suffer from headaches every now and then. Simply by resorting to some natural treatments! In the following lines, we have listed some natural ways to cure a headache.

Natural Headache Treatments:

  • Try breathing exercises. Sit with your legs crossed and take a deep breath, letting your lungs fill with clean air. Do this atleast 10 times. Now, close your right nostril with your right index finger. Take a deep breath through the left nostril, wait for 1-2 seconds, release your right nostril and exhale the air from it. Repeat with the left nostril closed.
  • Massage your eyes with the three middle fingers, keeping the balls of the fingers on the eyebrows. With the help of the fingertips, make gentle circular motions over the eyeballs.
  • Gently massage your temples with the help of your fingertips. If possible, ask someone to massage the nape of your neck, the shoulders and neck muscles.
  • Headaches are mainly the result of stress. Try to relax your mind by indulging in meditation or taking a peaceful nap.
  • Take a warm, luxurious bath. It helps in easing the muscles and also makes you feel very relaxed.
  • Lie down on the bed and close your eyes. Now put cool cucumber slices over the eyes and keep lying. It will help you relax.
  • You can also keep cotton dipped in cold water on your forehead. This brings relief from headache caused by excessive sun exposure or heat. However, make sure that the water is not too chilly.
  • Chill curd/yoghurt in the fridge and apply a thick coat of it on your forehead and the area around your eyes. Headaches, caused due to heat, become better with this.
  • Listen to soft, soothing music on the stereo. Do not put on headphones, as they might increase the intensity of the headache.
  • Dehydration is one of the major causes of headaches. So, try drinking lots of water and make sure that you do not sweat too much.
  • Never ever keep a long gap between two meals. If it has been a long time since you had your last meal, eat something. The headache might be the result of hunger.
  • In summers, try having something like fresh lime, to get rid of headaches.
